All about the monument : The Red Fort is one of the most famous historical monuments in India and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1648, the fort served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors for nearly 200 years. Constructed using red sandstone, the fort is known for its massive walls, beautiful Mughal architecture, royal halls, and museums. Every year on Independence Day, the Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag here.
